Playing sax for a Somerset Wedding
What a great place to be when the sun comes out. Last weekend I was at Coombe Lodge in Somerset playing sax for the Wedding of Nicola and Chris.
A 50/50 weather forecast in Yorkshire means that it’s going to rain. A 50/50 weather forecast in Somerset means it’s going to be a beautiful summer day with lots of sunshine. And so it was.
I played for the ceremony outside with the house’s massive porch as a stage.
One minor hitch; ‘How Long Will I Love You’ (Ellie Goulding) was not quite long enough for the bridal procession because one of Nicola’s heels had a disagreement with a gap in the paving stones as she was walking to the ceremony! For the first time ever, I reached the end of the song before the Bride had arrived at the front. So it was a quick replay from the intro of the song again. But it worked quite well because the song’s intro is very low key, so it seemed like a nice little musical epilogue as Nicola and her dad finally arrived at the station.
Even so, note to myself: Edit a longer sax version of ‘How Long Will I Love You’. It is a very short song.
Nuptials completed without any hesitations, register signed, legalities checked, it was time for Nicola & Chris to dance bounce down the aisle to my sax version of ‘Signed, Sealed, Delivered’.

Then straight into champagne and photos in the summer sunshine followed by the Wedding breakfast in Coombe Lodge’s beautiful bright banqueting room.
